Failure is Okay 7A

Failure is something that everyone at one point in his or her life has experienced.  More times then not it leads to disappointment and upset.  However, failure is something that can be turned into a teachable moment.  The greatest lessons come from failure.  Growing up, I remember always being taught that the greatest things in life came from failure.  For example, the chocolate chip was a failure however it ended up becoming something great.
In today’s society I believe that it is extremely hard to fail because it is not what we have been taught. Failure is not an option; it is only to be successful in life.
We have been taught from a young age that we must be number one. Obviously, no one is perfect so failure does occur. But in American culture failing only pushes people that much further to try harder in order to never feel that low again.  In elementary school I was taught that failing on a test or quiz meant I was stupid.  I now know that is not the case.  Failing has taught me how to study, how to use my time and how to be successful and as many ways possible. These are valuable lessons that I don’t think I would have been able to learn if it wasn’t for failing those tests.  After all, failing something does not determine the rest of your life.  Life shouldn’t be about failing or succeeding in society, it should be about being happy.
I think in our schools, we don’t allow kids to feel that failing is okay.  If we did, I strongly believe kids would be a lot happier with the bumps in the road that do exist in everyday life.  Life has so many ups and downs and if we were to teach children that that’s okay at a young age I think our society as a whole would be a lot more accepting of everyone.
Failure cannot be avoided so why not accept it.  As J.K. Rowling said, “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.”  We need to embrace failure and look at it as a positive not negative like its been talked about.
