Always Love Who You Were Yesterday 8B

I put together my six word memoir saying, “ Always love who you were yesterday”.  I chose these words because I feel that every individual can relate to it in someway. This explains how each day we must be the best we can and not to have any regrets on the past. The past does not dictate who we are; we must live each day as if it is our last. This past summer as a Common Read, we as a freshman class were assigned to read “My Beloved World,” by Sonia Sotomayor. I believe that this book was chosen for the Common Read because it is a story that can relate to every incoming freshman. Sotomayor’s story tells the truth about life and the lessons you will receive as a result from certain experiences. Sonia Sotomayor comes from a family of poverty; she was taught from a young age that school was the key to success. Sotomayor worked really hard in her academics, social, work, and family life in order to get to where she is today. All Sonia’s life she was told that she would never amount to anything, but with determination and perseverance Sonia proved everyone wrong. She refused to just be a name on a piece of paper, Sonia made her voice known by becoming an active member of society. As a college student, everything is a balancing act. Sonia prioritized her tasks in order to function daily. We need to do the same thing, and not let other people influence our decisions. We are the pilot of our own life, and it is up to us to push forward even though there are going to be some hardships along the way. Sonia’s father was an alcoholic and died along with other family members. Sonia dealt with a lot of hardship and suffering in her life. This relates to the average college student because when you look around campus you don’t know what others have experienced throughout their life. But, despite everything they all got here somehow.
